Instant comfort - anywhere. Sit in Cosm, and you just might forget you’re sitting in a chair at all. Its sophisticated ergonomic design sets a new bar for instant, personalized comfort, no matter who sat in the chair before you, how long you’ll be in it, or what you’ll be doing. The designers at Berlin-based Studio 7.5 knew, even when working on predecessors like Mirra, Setu, and Mirra 2, that the ideal chair would provide a smooth feeling of natural balance. Cosm’s revolutionary Auto-Harmonic Tilt does just that - putting the person first and responding to them, no matter their posture - for total support. Available in three different back heights, as well as a stool, Cosm gives you a new experience of comfort - anywhere you work.

Cosm Chair includes the below features:

Low-Back Height: The low-back, with it's wrap-top, facilitates casual movement and lets people comfortably sit sideways with their arm draped over the top of the backrest.
Mid-Back Height: The mid-back provides scapular support and easily adapts to any setting, from workstations to project rooms to conference areas.
High-Back Height: The high-back fits like a glove while providing upper-thoracic support and a sense of comfort and privacy.
    ?
Fixed Arms: Arms are set at 8.6 inches above the seat and cannot be adjusted. Ideal for short-term-use areas like conference rooms, multi-guest workspaces, and more.
Height-Adjustable Arms: Height Adjustable Arms adjust 4.4 inches vertically from 7 inches to 11.4 inches above the seat. This gives you the ability to support your arms at a comfortable height without straining your shoulders.
Leaf Arms: aiming to reinvent the task chair arm, Studio 7.5 developed Cosm's Leaf Arms, which provide a large, comfortable resting place for your elbow. The soft but firm cradle design stabilizes your body and allows you to place your elbow wherever it's most comfortable, and the fixed design turns the arms into handles that make getting in and out of the seat easy.

    Key Features

Performance: A tilt is to a chair what a transmission is to a car, and like transmissions, some are manual, and others, such as Cosm's, are automatic. With other self-adjusting models, the chair forces the body to conform to the tilt's movement. Cosm's Auto-Harmonic Tilt puts the person first and responds to them - no matter their posture - providing a balanced recline and personalized comfort. Studio 7.5 and Herman Miller perfected the self-adjusting tilt by inventing and engineering a complex, finely tuned mechanism. Accounting for the sitter's vertical force, the gears within the tilt move the fulcrum along a leaf spring to automatically adjust the tilt's tension.

Intercept Suspension: Breathable and temperature-neutral, the continuous form of this elastomeric suspension eliminates the gap between the seat and back, conforming to each person's body to provide dynamic spinal support.

Flexible Frame: The thin but strong frame feels nearly non-existent and offers support while flexing so you can comfortably move your upper body.

    Back Height Options:
    - Mid-Back Height: The mid-back provides scapular support and easily adapts to any setting, from workstations to project rooms to conference areas.

Arm Options: Any back height can be paired with any arm option.
    - Fixed Arms: Arms are set at 8.6 inches above the seat and cannot be adjusted. Ideal for short-term-use areas like conference rooms, multi-guest workspaces, and more.
    - Height-Adjustable Arms: Height Adjustable Arms adjust 4.4 inches vertically from 7 inches to 11.4 inches above the seat. This gives you the ability to support your arms at a comfortable height without straining your shoulders.
your elbow wherever it's most comfortable, and the fixed design turns the arms into handles that make getting in and out of the seat easy.

Tilt: The Auto-Harmonic Tilt is the first self-adjusting tilt from Herman Miller. The tilt gives each sitter individual support and a balanced recline that lets the body naturally pivot at the ankles, knees and hips.

Casters: Designed for use on low to medium-pile carpet, such as commercial or Berber, these 2.5 inch casters have durable black nylon wheels and includes Quiet Roll Technology to reduce noise on hard surfaces.

Cosm Chair is tested and warranted for use by persons 350 pounds and under.

    Design Story

The German word for design is entwerfen, which roughly translates as “to throw.” According to the designers, that’s “throw something a little bit ahead of the curve, or ahead of what you know, to help pull you in the right direction.” With Cosm, “throwing” led Studio 7.5 to their most sophisticated design yet.

When Burkhard Schmitz and Carola Zwick started their design studio as a team of six in 1992, they were looking for the freedom to work on projects that interested them. And for the freedom from bosses and titles. “Everybody does everything,” says Schmitz, speaking for the group that now includes Carola’s brother, Roland Zwick. “That’s how we cultivate ideas and maintain our openness and curiosity.”

They find designing office chairs to be most rewarding and have worked with Herman Miller on the Setu Chair, the award-winning Mirra chair, Mirra 2, and Cosm. “We define not only how the chair looks but how it performs,” Carola says. As to how Setu, Mirra, and Cosm all perform for you, they provide comfort no matter how or where you sit.

      About Herman Miller

Herman Miller is a pioneer in the furniture industry, an innovator whose human-centered, problem-solving approach to design has introduced new ways of living and working for over 100 years. Environmentally-friendly design, lean manufacturing, ergonomics, the open office, even American modernism itself: Herman Miller and their designers have had a hand in shaping it all. In the spirit of their founder, D.J. De Pree, who established a willingness to abandon themselves creatively to the influence of others, they have partnered with the world’s leading designers for generations—from midcentury icons George Nelson, Charles and Ray Eames, and Alexander Girard to Michael Anastassiades, Scholten & Baijings, Yves Behar, and more of today’s leading design minds. Herman Miller's work with them continues to explore design as a method of change, and the enriching value authenticity brings to our lives. Together, Herman Miller is shaping new kinds of spaces where people will live and work for years to come.

    Care & Maintenance

With regular care and maintenance, your Herman Miller product will provide many years of superior performance and satisfaction. To maintain quality, please follow the cleaning procedures outlined here.

The instructions for the care and maintenance of Herman Miller products are provided to you as a service. No warranty is implied since results may vary.

      Frame, Base, and Standard Armpads
      Normal cleaning

Wash surface with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.

Do not use solvents or abrasive kitchen cleaners.

      Suspension Material
      Normal cleaning

Vacuum fabric as needed using an upholstery attachment. Vacuuming picks up dust and reduces the need for professional cleaning.

Do not brush fabric or use a vacuum attachment with a rotary brush. Brushing may permanently damage the nap or change the character of the fabric.

      Spot Cleaning

Immediately soak up the stain with a soft absorbent cloth.

Do not dry the stain completely or it may set. The longer a stain is allowed to remain on a fabric, the more difficult it is to remove.

Water-based stains such as coffee, soft drinks, fruit juices, or milk

Use a water-based cleaner (specifically made for cleaning fabric) or a solution of mild (alkaline) warm soapy water (not overly soapy) applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. Work the cleaner into a lather or foam.

Never use hot water; it will set the stain. Avoid scrubbing.

Oil-based stains such as lipstick, grease, or salad dressing

Use a dry cleaning solution applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. Test the cleaning solution on a small, concealed area first. If there is no spotting, ringing, or damage to the fabric or its dyes, apply the cleaning solution to the soiled area with light, quick strokes. Begin at the outside of the stain and work toward the center, being careful not to over-saturate the fabric.

K2R is also a product that can be used. See product label for complete instructions. Do not over apply water or any liquid solution to fabric. Excessive wetting of the fabric with any liquid solution may result in permanent damage to the material. Do not rub too vigorously or you may damage the nap of the fabric or break fibers. Several light applications are better than one heavy application. Soak up all remaining solution and then use another clean cloth or sponge dipped in cool water to remove any residue. Let fabric dry thoroughly and then vacuum well before using. If the stain resists cleaning, contact a professional cleaner.

If large areas are soiled, contact a professional cleaning firm.
