Product Overview

Zody Task Chair

Advanced Ergonomics
Zody features a patented Pelvic and Asymmetrical Lumbar (PAL) back system that allows users to set their own comfort throughout the day. The pelvic support helps to maintain the spine’s natural curvature; while the lumbar pad is designed to fit the natural curvature in a user’s spine and offers independent fine-tuning for the amount of support on either side of the lower back. This unique system - plus a host of ergonomic adjustments, the flexible frame, and the mesh back construction - serves to enhance comfort and well-being.

Exceptional Sustainability
Zody is also a masterpiece when it comes to sustainability. Designed to minimize its impact on the environment, 42 percent of Zody is made from recycled content, and it is 93 percent recyclable. Zody is manufactured in a zero landfill, ISO 14001 certified facility in Bruce, MS. Zody holds GREENGUARD GOLD and BIFMA level™ 3 certifications, and it can be easily disassembled at the end of its useful life. As part of Haworth’s Take Back program, we will take care of properly disassembling Zody and recycling each component.

Seat: Designed with a strong core that provides comfort for your thighs.

  • Flexible seat pan with upholstered foam and waterfall edge.

Design Story

    Michael Welsh

A sea kayaker who finds inspiration in nature, Michael Welsh leads Haworth’s Seating Studio with the sole purpose of improving people’s lives at work and at home. Born in Cincinnati, he attended The Ohio State University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Design.

Michael’s professional career began as a designer in a small consultancy, creating consumer electronics, exhibits, and furniture. His debut in the contract furniture industry led him to explore desking, storage, and, lighting. Michael then gravitated toward design of the “mini-environment”—the spaces where the human-product interface is more intimate. At its core is the chair, where he discovered his passion for supporting seated postures. Like the kayak, the chair is a natural extension of the body, requiring different postures depending on the user’s purpose.

Michael’s design approach balances the complexity of performance with simplicity in design that makes seating feel natural. Since joining Haworth, Michael was lead designer for the Zody® chair, collaborating with Germany’s ITO Design. Then he moved on to lead the design of the Very® task chair, the Very multipurpose family, Shetland lounge seating, and the revolutionary Fern™ seating program. Michael is driven to create life-enriching designs that provide a more human, natural, and desired experience.
